‘No good travel photo album is complete without the token sunrise or sunset picture!’
EXPOSE FOR THE HIGHLIGHTS
By exposing for the brightest part of the scene, you will prevent the areas around the sun from being washed out.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOREGROUND AND THE SKY
If the foreground is interesting, place the horizon near the top third of the frame. But if the sky is interesting, place the horizon line close to the bottom.
Sunsets can be a great time to take images using the High Dynamic Range (HDR) technique. However, use the technique with caution, as HDR is known to ruin the mood and feeling of a scene when used improperly.
TAKE BOTH HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL PHOTOGRAPHS
You need to be quick while taking sunset photographs. If you can’t instantly decide which orientation looks best, take both horizontal and vertical photographs. You can then choose the best image at home.
KEEP YOUR LENS CLEAN
All the time we keep our mobile in pocket ,bags etc. Sometimes dust particles will cover your camera lens and ruin your captures, so before capturing anything or before starting photography, just clean your back camera glass once, that will allow you to take clean shots.
Looking directly at the sun to capture sunset / sunshine for prolonged periods can damage your eyes. To be safe while photographing the sun, use live view. To live view use any dark glass or cooling glasses. It will helps you to see where the sun is and decide which angle will be better to capture sun.
Sunset photography can be a lot of fun to do. The nice thing is you don’t have to travel far to do it. There is a sunset every day and it can be captured from virtually anywhere. Even in your own backyard. Not every day will have a great sunset, but many will. Get out the your mobile and give some of these tips a try. As with any type of photography, the more you do it, the better you will be. Plus, mastering sunset photography in your own backyard or neighborhood will give you tons of confidence that you can nail the shot when you do travel other places.
